How Our Journey Began

Black Clinician Network was created on July 27, 2018, by Karena Curry. It was conceptualized during the process of starting her own private practice in Charlotte, NC. She was facing difficulties and realized there was not a space to seek counsel from people that looked like her. The community of clinicians seemed to be fragmented and had an aura of “every man for himself.” It was then that she decided to be the change that she wanted to see.

After discussing the idea with a few fellow clinicians, she brought the idea to fruition and created a Facebook Group for the surrounding community of Charlotte.

The group was created to be a safe space and support group for Black professionals that provide clinical and therapeutic counseling services. We want to promote positivity, encouragement, and empowerment to professionals in a counseling community that doesn’t always acknowledge us or the unique challenges that we face.

Networking, collaboration, referrals, and sharing of resources are all strongly encouraged in this group! The goal is to provide a stronger network of collaboration in our community for professional counselors of color.

Collaboration over competition, because we are stronger TOGETHER!
